ENTRANCE OF THE CHOIR AND CLERGY

How to come in? The liturgy answers: with dignity, reverence, and order—from the beginning we establish values that are shared throughout the liturgy.
PICTURE OF PROCESSION TO COME
The participants gather, the liturgy begins.
Symbols as well as people are involved in the procession as they will be throughout the liturgy. First there is the cross that emphasizes the importance of Christ. Second, lighted candles to insist on both continuity with ancient time and present belief that Jesus is the light of the world.
On some Sundays incense will be offered, just as one may wear a special perfume or aftershave on particularly festive occasions. The choir enters to strengthen the music-making of the people. The clergy enter to move to various tasks at the altar or in the sanctuary.

Very solemn occasions will include blessing the congregation with holy water. The message is that we are all washed and cleansed by God's love.
