Saint Nicholas' has had a Mary Shrine for many years. It is a place for very personal prayer—prayer represented by the many candles lighted here by parishioners and visitors year after year. The original Mary Shrine was reworked in a rather conservative way. The original wrought iron was cleaned and positioned on an all-new base. The inscription "Salve Regina; Salve Mater Christi" ("Hail, Queen; Hail Mother of Christ") was added. A new marble shelf was installed to match the parish altar and to emphasize the link between Mary and her Son.
