"A light beside a dark road, a door beside a busy street,
a welcome beside the uncaring rush of traffic."
RECTOR'S REMARKS
"Yin and Yang are themes in Chinese civilization. Yin and Yang symbolize the great "completing" principles—wet and dry, male and female, complete and incomplete, good and evil.

"Christian life has its own version of Yin and Yang. The Christian season of Epiphany and Lent complete each other as they lead faith-filled people.

"Epiphany has been "on" since January 6 with the celebration of the Wise Men. Sunday after Sunday will offer a way in which Jesus brings light and shares the Light of God. This is the season in which we are invited to be People of Light.

"Perhaps it is natural to see our own weaknesses better because of God's light. Perhaps it is natural to want more of God's story as we have heard a little that is so attractive and encouraging. Perhaps. In any case, the serious forty days of Lent build on the great themes of Epiphany.

"Ash Wednesday is where Lent begins, February 13 this year. We will have two services:12:00 noon and 7:00 p.m. The earlier service is intended for adults, the evening service invited children to begin their experience of Lenten discipline and discovery.

"Our Wednesday evening Lenten Study program will refer to the glorious art and Christian expression of Spain. I was in Madrid this past September and I am eager to share what I learned there. Slides presenting treasures from the Prado will be part of each meeting. Epiphany and Lent are both seasons of encouragement. Epiphany shows "the glory of his grace"; the effect of God's love in action. Lent invites us to a personal re-awakening, a personal repentance that allows us to feel the freedom of sin forgiven and life rearranged by God.

"I invite you to the observance of a full and satisfying Christian year. Enjoy the blessings that God intends to be the joy of souls."
