Fasting can include abstinence from meat and desserts, giving the amount that would have been spent on an imaginary guest, planning more sensible eating as a steward of one's life and body, even creating especially welcoming dining for guests as an expression of Christian love.

Study can include daily use of "Forward Day by Day," reading and review of a Forward movenement booklet (in the Saint Nicholas tract rack), a novel with a Christian theme, participation in the Parish Lenten Study.

Giving can be to Church or charity on a disciplined basis. The traditional Lenten banks are available at Saint Nicholas. The 2003 Lenten collection will be to support Anglican life in Sudan.
